Effective Ways To Resolve A Conflict At Work

In daily working life, good working conditions are required. Every employee feels satisfied with their work if the conditions are met. However, a conflict often appears at workplace when though working conditions are good. So, it is not easy to solve conflict if it happens. And here are some suggestions to resolve a conflict at workplace.

First, you need to identify the problem. Before to involve in resolving a conflict, you have to identify the core of the problem, for it is the only way which helps you find out what is going on with the argument. For instance, employees may have a conflict because a less qualified person got the promotion they desired, they regularly have to work overtime, they did not get the expected pay raise, or they did not get the office they wanted. So, if you can find out the root of this problem, you can deal with it more easily.

Second, determine the size and scope of the problem. At this stage, you have to be clear whether the problem is serious, happens often, or just minor one. Less serious work-related problems might include minor inconveniences and annoyances in the work environment, such as supplies needed are out, the copy machine wasn’t refilled with paper, and so on. Often these types of problem can be easily addressed by communicating concerns with the individual involved. Sometimes minor inconveniences and annoyances are brushed aside and ignored—and sometimes should be. Moreover, work-related problems considered to be of a more serious nature would include those that pose a risk to health and safety, violate federal or state workplace laws, violate company policies or employee contract, and so on.

Third, you should identify the easiest way to resolve the problem. You can try to keep the problem as simple as possible by choosing the easiest route first. For example, an apology, a meeting or mediation may be used. As workplace conflicts vary in nature, no one approach may necessarily work for every situation encountered. But, again, whenever possible, start with the easiest approach first. Legal action, if applicable to the particular situation, should be used only as a last resort after all other attempts to solve the problem have been tried first.

Finally, arrange to meet with your employer. If you think that the problem is necessary for you to meet your employer, you should schedule an appointment to meet with your superior. In most situations, discussing a problem with your employer can usually resolve most conflicts. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding, an oversight, or a lack of legal knowledge. Often bringing the problem to the employer’s attention will help resolve the problem. Given the opportunities will work to address a problem, especially a problem that could involve the company legally.

To sum up, it is not easy to resolve a conflict at workplace, so suggested points above would help you deal with problems at your workplace. Remember that a wise solves a problem with communication not violence.
